Garden photos

Pink hanging lantern (pink is the color of happiness) and Quan Yin statue with minature Japanese maple. My patio has mostly an Asian feel in choice of pots and plants, with a little cottage garden thrown in. Click on the thumb nails to see full sized.

I walked over to the garden center yesterday and hauled home 45 pounds worth of plants (by hand over one mile--hee!) and worked on my patio for three hours planting, organizing, new and old. And today a neighbor knocked on my door and asked if I wanted to go for a walk. We ended up at the garden center again, spending an hour walking the paths, looking at all the specimens and talking about what would suit her garden and mine. It was lovely. My Sheltie wandered the grounds since I take him off leash there.

Plants on my hand made mosaic table (made by me) are two types of lavender, a giant elephant ear leafy plant (name escapes me now, but I'll remember later), and some colorful hens and chicks I potted into the small clay pot which rests on a hand made clay plate by me.

One of the things I bought was a Spanish Lavender topiary which is good to zone five. You could not grow this in most of North America but our climate is mild enough to grow palm trees. All my pots lined up to the door, but I put in a large jug from a trip to Portugal to break it up a little.

A close up of the garden scape I made with a small Buddha buried in herbs and the top of my topiary rose tree, which will be covered in blooms next month. A bamboo wind chime hangs from it and I found bird droppings on my small bronze statue of Leda and the Swan from Greece today. A purple finch has been sneaking in to drink water from my small fountain in the mornings.

Wonderful icon maker I found recently for beautiful stock and QaF icons: [info]trinketwood.

I actually started out Gothic, Good Hands and a quirky one shot but have been writing at odd hours. Pretty sure something up tomorrow but I needed a day off.

You have such a beautiful garden. My green thumb only works when the plants are directly in the ground. Me and potted plants don't get along very well. Looking forward to more Gothic. Enjoy your garden.

Well, I have no choice since I'm three stories up, lol, so make do, but I like a lot of what I have and in fact I grow trees and small shrubs.

I think Gothic should be interesting. I'll tinker with it now. First scene was done this morning.

Everything looks lovely. I love your lavender topiary. Lavender is one of my favourites I have in my perennial bed.

I am looking forward to more pictures when your rose tree is flowering.

That is so nice that a purple finch is visiting your garden. I love it at the cottage where I can watch the birds from the sunroom window.

I adore lavender. I'm constantly buying more! I really have too much of that herb. Have you ever had rosemary creme brule? I hope to make that this summer.

Yes, the rose tree was stunning last year. Let's hope the long cold winter/spring hasn't affected the blooms.

Birds are a wonderful thing. Since I have a honeysuckle vine, my neighbor assured me that I'd see hummingbirds also this year.

I like your icon.

Yeah, it's not size that matters, really. I really like that it's small. If it were larger, I'm sure I wouldn't get anything done.

lavender topiary I might have to get one of those for my bedroom balcony.
I adore lavender so having it in a pot on the balcony sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the inspiration...

I always enjoy pictures of your garden, you really have a way with plants.

That's just a lovely, peaceful garden. Thanks so much for sharing pictures of it with us. =>}

One question. What do you do with all these wonderful plants when it's winter? Can you take them inside and winter them over, or do you just start again each Spring? Just wondering. =>}

It's all so beautiful and calming.

You've really done a lot with limited space. I didn't realize that you lived in an apartment - I always envisioned you living in a house with a large yard.

I grew up in Seattle so I know the climate. I miss all the lovely Rhododendrons and Azaleas. They just don't survive our winters here.

I adore wind chimes and have one outside each door. I like the longer pipes and lower tones over the higher pitched ones.

Thanks for sharing.

You have such a beautiful garden. I envy you, I have a total black thumb. I've finally given up and the only plants I have in the house are silk. My lawn service takes care of my lawn and shrubs. I hope you enjoy spending time amongst all your pretty plants and statuary.

Your garden is just gorgeous. :D I always loved flowers and used to spend a lot of time planting flowers, rose bushes, and bulbs in our yard, but haven't done much with it lately.

hehe I had to laugh about the finch. We have a cardinal living in our neighbors tree and he loves to sit on my car and my dad's car. He sits on the right side door and looks at himself in the mirror. Leaves the car door a mess though. :(

Your garden looks very tranquil and inviting, although there seems to be a lot of green around you anyway. It is very satisfying to do this, as it is beautiful and then it all grows and flowers!

Your patio is everytime more nice, your hands are "good hands" ^_-
I love lavender, last week I worked on my roof-garden (is correct this word?) and I planted me too a lavender (and some of other aromatic plats). I love gardening because made me relax. Here in my town, the 24 June we picked up lavander because it's a magic night (but I think it is so in all world, in effect LOL).
Sorry, I pull out. Compliments for your patio again ^^

Kiss!

*dreamy*
You have no idea how much this makes me ache for a balcony... it looks wonderful. All the plants look incredibly healthy and well-grown, and I don't know how you keep it so neat. My mom has two balconies to her apartment but they're not so cozy, and pretty shaggy even with blooming plants. And I wish I could find something like that iron(?) fern-shaped whatchamacallit.. Do you keep those plants outdoors all year? I'd have thought it got cold where you live?

For such a small space you have created something serene and beautiful. It must be so fragrant as well. It must give you such joy to have made this oasis. May you continue to enjoy it for a long time to come. Would love to see pics of your rose in flower.

God, I love that table. You could probably sell it for a small fortune. Did you buy the tiles in some premade set or had them custom-made? I don't know how much time it must've taken to make this, but I admire your patience.
Although I start to understand how having some offline work to do does wonders to thought process.

Do you have an outdoor garden too?

Damn, I'm sooooo behind on your fics. I log in everyday with an intention of catching up, but you know, everything on the 'net is so shiny!
